Vivienne Foundation launches following Westwood's death

Published
Jan 19, 2023

This week has seen the launch of the Vivienne Foundation, created to “honour, protect and continue the legacy” of Dame Vivienne Westwood, the influential designer and entrepreneur who died late last month.

DR

It’s a not-for-profit organisation that aims to continue the activism for which she was well known with a focus on four key aims: halting climate change, stopping war, defending human rights and protesting against capitalism.

Despite owning and operating a luxury fashion brand, Westwood was a high-profile campaigner on a variety of anti-establishment issues.

Her maverick approach could be seen both in her lifestyle and approach to business and in an industry that until recently was completely focused on encouraging people to buy more product, more often, her long-time mantra was: “Buy Less, Choose Well, Make it last.”

The new foundation’s website says that it will raise awareness and fundraise for NGOs aligned with our mission to create a better society and halt climate change”.
