Uniqlo monthly sales look buoyant again

Published
Sep 2, 2022

Uniqlo’s Japanese sales seem to be strongly back on a growth curve with the company reporting a second month of sales rises on Friday.

Uniqlo

It said that August same-store sales, including online, increased by 14.9% year on year while total sales rose an even stronger 18.4%. Customer number and the average purchase per customer were also strongly ahead of the year average.

The increases in August came as persistently high temperatures supported strong sales of its summer ranges, while sales of new on-trend products also proved strong.

The company has seen some extreme rises and extreme falls in recent periods and reported a dip in June. But sales managed to rise in July with a 6.4% same-store increase and rise of 8.1% in total. Once again, that was fuelled by hot weather.

Uniqlo is heavily dependent on the right kind of weather for seasonal sales and struggled in the spring as cold weather dented sales of clothes suitable for warmer temperates.
