Uniqlo has strong September as sun shines in Japan

Published
Oct 2, 2020

Fast Retailing had good news on sales for its star Uniqlo brand in its domestic Japanese market on Friday. It said that same store sales at the chain and webstore during September increased by as much as 10%. And total sales were up by 10.4%.

Uniqlo

As usual with this company, the weather had a big effect on the sales story during the month and in this case, the fact that hot weather continued through the middle of the month helped it to record strong sales of its summer ranges. It also did well with products suitable for the ongoing work from home conditions and its AIRism masks also sold well.

While the company is getting back to normal after the disruption of the pandemic, by the end of September, four of its Japanese shops remained temporarily closed and 90 of them (out of 766 in total) were operating shorter working hours. These were included in the figures, which makes those figures look even better in the circumstances.

Customer numbers and average purchases per customer were in line with the figures for the year as a whole.
