Supreme appoints Tremaine Emory as creative director

A little over a year ago, VF Corp offered Supreme a little over $2.1 billion, a major investment for the American conglomerate which owns Vans, The North Face, Timberland and Dickies. But until now, the teams of the group and the New York label seemed mostly focused on the issues with production and delivery of collections in the context of the global pandemic crisis.

A new step has been taken by Supreme as it appoints a new creative director: the American creative, Tremaine Emory.

The designer and founder of the premium denim brand, Denim Tears, and who co-founded the creative collective No Vacancy Inn together with DJ Acycle will therefore work with Supreme's design studio and its founder James Jebbia, as stated by BusinessofFashion.

At almost 40 years old, Tremaine Emory has established himself as one of the most important African-American designers. He began by creating projects that merged fashion with videomaking and art after having worked for Marc Jacobs and Kanye West, who congratulated him on his appointment on Wednesday. He has also worked with OffWhite, the rapper A$AP Mob and the musician Frank Ocean. With his own brand, which he will continue to design collections for, the Los Angeles-based designer has also garnered attention through his collaborations with Levi's, Converse, Champion and Asics, bringing a refreshing artistic creativity to streetwear. He is additionally an adamant supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement.
