Searches for coloured jackets surge, says Moss Bros

Published
Mar 17, 2022

We've heard a lot about the demise of the formal men's suit in recent periods, but it seems that men aren't necessarily abandoning tailored clothing altogether, they're just varying their approach. And new figures on searches from Moss Bros suggest that colour is a key way to do this.

Moss Bros

Overall, searches for “coloured jackets” have risen 22% this year compared to 2021.

It’s a clear sign of men ringing the changes in their wardrobes between winter and spring/summer and also of them adapting their formalwear tastes.

And the retailer said it has tracked more than 248,000 people talking about “coloured suits” online.

Searches for coloured jackets are much higher overall, but some colours are spiking more than others.

It may not exactly seen very adventurous that brown is the top searched-for colour with a 1,198% spike and that beige is up 555%. But also on the list, Burgundy has risen 911%, light blue 417%, white 330%, royal blue 237%, green 211%, pink 187% and red 163%.

Whether that means we’ll be seeing a burst of colour on the UK’s streets this spring and summer remains to be seen, of course.
