The Swiss business that specialises in using barcodes to create tools for purchasing and management in augmented reality has announced that it has raised $30 million (€25.7 million euros). The funds will allow the business to accelerate its international development and develop new solutions for computers and mobile devices that have cameras.

The second round was led by GV and included new investors such as NGP Capital and return investors such as Atomico. Scandit’s technology is already used by Sephora, Levi’s, Louis Vuitton, Macy’s, Nike, and Clarks.

The business’ tools allow customers, sales assistants, and logistics workers to search for products by scanning different barcodes and labels and then the search hits are flagged by augmented reality. The system is an interactive one that facilitates reserve product searches.

Samuel Mueller, CEO of Scandit, said: “This new round of fundraising will allow us to maintain our rapid growth, but also in the long term to facilitate the global adoption of computer-assisted vision and mobility and augmented reality within business which will help to srteamline operations and cut costs."

Scandit does not limit its technologies to software tools for computers, mobiles, and tablets, and also works with augmented reality glasses, drones, robots made for logistics management, and even fixed cameras. The use of visual data is presented as an alternative to management systems that are based on Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID).
