Scalpers to expand into Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands; looks to invest in other industry players

The Spanish company Scalpers is considering expanding its business by acquiring or investing in other fashion companies. In parallel, the company also announced its retail entry into Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands in 2023.

The fashion company led by Borja Vázquez is currently looking into business opportunities that "would add value to its portfolio", as explained by the group's CEO and as reported by online newspaper, El Español.

Although the company has not yet carried out transactions, it is using the profitability of some companies in the apparel industry as a reason to diversify its business. In 2021, the group (which controls brands such as Mim Shoes and Victoria) closed the year with 110 million euros in turnover, while it aims to exceed 160 million in 2022.

Regarding its retail development, Scalpers is preparing to launch in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands next year, opening between four and five stores in each market. These countries are not, in themselves, new for the company, which already sells close to 3 million euros in Germany. The chain's online retail presence covers 18 markets, while its physical retail presence is concentrated in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Chile and Turkey.

The company's positive performance, and that of its various business lines in 2021, led Scalpers to consider selling the company at the beginning of the year, but the challenging global economic context brought the operation to a standstill (similar to what happened with Tendam and El Ganso).

In addition to its turnover, Scalpers' appeal is based on reasons such as the success of its women's line, launched in 2018, which already accounts for 60% of its online sales and 35% of global turnover.
