Redress, an NGO fighting against textile waste, will hold the final show for the Redress Design Award 2022 in Hong Kong on September 7. Ten international designers have been selected for the competition’s final stage.

Redress Design Awards

The Redress Design Award aims to recognise fashion designers able to develop zero-waste collections, featuring where possible upcycled and rejuvenated garments. More generally, the goal is to promote circularity strategies focused on designing low-impact products and developing manufacturing processes low on waste generation, as well as creating long-lasting, recyclable garments.

This year's award final is notable for its international line-up: India will be represented by Ashutosh Panda and Mohammed Numaan Khan; Chile by Cris Miranda; Spain by Drina Marco and Micaela Clubourg; Italy by Federico Badini Confalonieri; Brazil by Livia Aguiar de Castro; Sri Lanka by Nawoda Bandara and Ruwanthi Gajadeera; and finally, Hong Kong by Patrick Lam.

The winner will receive a development fund of HKD50,000 (nearly €6,400), and will join the sustainability and social responsibility team at Timberland, the VF Corp. brand which is the event’s partner. Prizes will also be awarded to the competition’s runner-up and to the winner of the Hong Kong Best Prize, in the form of cash prizes, mentoring support and sewing equipment.

An international jury composed of fashion industry experts, including Hong Kong's Edwin Keh, managing director of the Hong Kong Research Institute for Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), will evaluate the finalists' collections based on their creativity, sustainability, marketability and manufacturing quality.

The jury also includes Sean Cady (of VF Corporation), Orsola de Castro (Fashion Revolution), Christophe Degoix (TAL Apparel), Puneet Khosla (Timberland), designer Angus Tsui, and Desiree Au (Vogue Hong Kong).
