Quiksilver launches sustainable Made Better collection

Published
Mar 10, 2021

Huntington Beach, California-based boardsport apparel brand Quiksilver has revealed Made Better, a sustainable collection made from recycled materials, that supports the label’s environmental commitments.

Available to shop online, on the Quiksilver e-commerce platform, the collection features boardshorts manufactured using recycled plastic bottles, as well as summer basics and fleeces. Materials used to make the other pieces in the collection range from bottles and recycled fabrics, such as polyester, to organic cotton and natural dyes.

The recycled fleeces, for example, are produced using plastic bottles and recycled polyester, and feature bright colors and eye-catching retro prints plucked straight from the Quiksilver archives.

Commenting on its commitment to the use of recycled materials in a release, the Boardriders-owned brand explained that it “has focused on using recycled plastic bottles since the breakthrough of this fabric technology and to date has reused almost 250 million bottles that would otherwise have gone into landfill.”

Prices for the collection range from $25 for an organic tank top to $70 for a hoodie.

In parallel to the Made Better collection, Quiksilver is also launching a new sustainability hub, which will go live on the company’s website on March 10. The hub will showcase the brand’s eco-focused initiatives and credentials and outline its objectives for the coming years.

The space will also feature a rolling counter of the number of plastic bottles recycled by Quiksilver, a figure which currently stands at around 254.3 million.

The launch of Made Better and the sustainability hub are part of wider efforts being made by Quiksilver to mitigate its environmental impact. As well as recycling plastic bottles, the company has also avoided approximately 254.3 million tons of CO2 emissions by using recycled polyester in the majority of its products.

The brand’s goals for the future include sustainably producing all boardshorts, wetsuits, outdoor, snow and women’s collections by 2023, and using data to define science based targets in the same timeframe.

By 2026, the company intends to reduce its CO2 emissions by 50% and make 50% of its revenue via sustainable goods and services. Finally, by 2030, Quiksilver intends to be sustainably producing 100% of its goods and services, and to be climate positive thanks to its Mountain & Wave Regeneration Program.

Following the launch of Made Better, 100% of Quiksilver’s boardshorts are made with recycled materials, as well as 97% of the brand’s mountainwear.
