Pucci: Cool funky fringed nostalgia for Camille Miceli’s second collection

Published
Aug 29, 2022

Camille Miceli named her second collection for the house of Pucci 'La Piazzetta.' Unveiled Monday, the see-now-buy-now selection references the small squares that are at the heart of all Italian villages and life in Italy.

Miceli rifled incessantly through Pucci’s famed archive, yet the sense of nostalgia never looked hackneyed. Far from it – as the designer played with proportions in a collection that was an audacious jumbled-up blend of the Florentine label’s rich DNA.

Smartest of all, the French-born, but of Italian origin, designer extended Pucci far from its resort wear roots. Showing Mongolian shearling boots and black swirling parkas accessorized with Tibetan prayer necklaces; and mega stripe loose-weave or cable sweaters paired with Masai-like neck rings, though in funky acid hues. Great California cool clothes, culled from the Piazzetta.

“It’s a cheerful, heart-warming place, shaded here and there by beautiful trees, where the colorful and joyful tablecloths of the trattorias dance in the wind, embodying La Dolce Vita,” said Miceli of the collection, unveiled Monday online.

In April, Miceli launched her first ideas for Pucci, inviting a gang of pals and editors to Capri for a series of intimate events on the storied Mediterranean island. This follow-up collection is definitely not for the faint-hearted femme. Then again, Pucci never was, and never can be a quiet brand.

It’s also very much a full wardrobe collection, as Miceli varied the offer with long, double-breasted blazers with acid-hued piping, worn with silk cocktails in a Marmo print; mannish tuxedos and pencil pants trimmed with retro silk prints. Her mega ruffled disco pants were a homage to the late great Italian singer and gay icon Raffaella Carrà, for this fall cut from elastic Lycra, culled from activewear. Most of the collection made of practical, easy-to-transport Lycra and knit and sheathing fabrics. Raffia fringes on hoods and capes adding to the party atmosphere.

Fine funky footwear ranged from soaring print platform sandals to slinky boots in multi-color leopard silk prints or conical pumps finished with printed back ties.

Completing a smart and savvy fashion statement, showing Miceli very much in command at the LVMH-owned house.
