Public School to show co-ed collections in June and December

According to the American press, New York City-based fashion brand Public School will merge its men’s and women’s collections for a co-ed show beginning in June 2016.

Co-founders and Creative Directors, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne will hold fashion presentations twice a year in June and December to coincide with the men’s and pre-fall calendars. In addition, the brand is doing away with the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter format and will number each collection. Pre-spring and Spring will be called “Collection 1” and Pre-fall and Fall will be called “Collection 2”.

"Showing twice a year with both men's and women's in one show will allow us to really develop our ideas cohesively throughout the year and subsequently slow the entire process down. We can actually enjoy our collections as opposed to being tied to the calendar,” Chow said to the press.

Osborne added, "When we launched women's it was always the extension of the men's collections. It was a collection that our female friends could enjoy without altering the men's pieces to wear. We feel the similar design approach made more of an impact when we showed men's and women's at the same time.”

Chow and Osborne will focus on consumer-facing activity during the fashion weeks. In February, the duo opened their Public School FW16 presentation to the public by holding a contest that would accept 50 winners to the show. During the show, the models were led outside for an outdoor runway show for the public.

Public School joins Burberry, Gucci and Tom Ford as the latest to merge both collections for a co-ed fashion presentation.
