Première Vision Paris will be held in July next year, not September

Published
Feb 6, 2020

The Parisian show Première Vision has adopted a new calendar with  dates in February. More importantly, it will include a fall-winter event taking place in early July, rather than mid-September.

In September 2019, Première Vision Paris registered 2,056 exhibitors and 56,154 visitors at the Parc des Expositions in Villepinte - Première Vision

In 2021, Première Vision Paris will take place on February 2-4, followed by an event on July 6-8. Blossom Première Vision, dedicated to premium brands and luxury labels’ pre-collections, was originally held in early July. It will now be transformed into a “new event,” whose premise will be made public in the following months. The dates, however, have already been set for the second week of September. These don’t fall far from when Première Vision Paris would typically take place. Blossom and its December event have not been called into question for the moment.

This new calendar has placed Première Vision’s main event only a week after Pitti Immagine Filati 87, the yarn and knitwear show that takes place in early July in Florence. More importantly, Première Vision is basing its schedule on the dates of its Italian competitor, Milano Unica. This overlap was only temporary however, since the Italian show announced that it would push back its event in 2022, to July 12-14. Première Vision assured FashionNetwork that it had kept both its Italian and German counterparts informed from the very start of the project.

At the moment, Munich Fabric Start is held in the beginning of September, before Première Vision. This will change with the new calendar. Première Vision will also be distancing itself from the Chinese textile and clothing fairs, notably Intertextile and Chic, which advanced their dates from mid-October to late September in 2018. Events in Paris and Shanghai are quite close in timing, usually making it difficult for buyers and exhibitors to handle both.

Keeping up with the pace of collections

Première Vision SA relied on a survey conducted by the Institut Français de la Mode at the end of 2019, to assess the strategic validity of this calendar change. The report was based on the responses of 1,765 French, Italian, German, British and Spanish industry professionals, 72% of which were in favor of the winter dates moving from mid-February to early February. Another 69% were in favor of moving the September show to July. And among the exhibitors, the organizer reported that 65.5% were in favor of the February calendar change and 70% for the one in July .

The date change is based on a study conducted by theInstitut Français de la Mode (IFM), which Gildas Minvielle and Thomas Delattre (right) spoke about at the show - Première Vision

“There are three reasons behind this date change,” explained Première Vision’s general manager Gilles Lasbordes, in an interview with FashionNetwork. “The first is that products arrive in stores earlier now, with the common practice of pre-collections. The second is that collections, along with their delivery, have increased in pace. And the third is that, faced with these changes, collections now develop over longer periods of time, beginning the process earlier. There’s no doubt that this work begins with the choice of the material, which is at the heart of our service,” continued Lasbordes.

The official announcement will be made on February 11, at the opening of Première Vision Paris’s spring-summer 2021 event. Last year’s February event saw 53,156 visitors, coming from 127 countries.
