Philip Vlasov named editor-in-chief of Vogue Ukraine

Vogue Ukraine has announced that Philip Vlasov will be joining the team as new editor-in-chief after previous editor Olga Sushko was forced to step down amid plagiarism claims.

Vlasov is returning to the fashion magazine, where he headed the fashion department for two years, after working as creative director of Ukrainian fashion retailer Asthik Group.

Launched in 2012, Conde Nast International suspended and removed former Vogue Ukraine editor-in-chief Sushko from her post in November after claims emerged on social media that she had plagiarised Russian authors and used ghostwriters for her columns.

The company has yet to announce the results of an investigation into the plagiarism claims but Vlasov’s appointment means it is unlikely that Sushko will return to the Ukrainian edition.

Speaking about Vlasov’s arrival, Karina Dobrotvorskaya, executive director of editorial development at Condé Nast International, commented: “Ukrainian Vogue is one of the most innovative, interesting and creative projects in the international Vogue family. Here is a team of professionals who differ in their own vision and passionate attitude to work.

"From the very beginning, Philip Vlasov was a part of this team, helping Ukrainian Vogue to find his unique voice. He has extensive experience working with different media brands - from GQ to Tatler, from Elle to Vogue. He combines brilliant managerial and creative abilities, which is very rare. Philip will be able not only to maintain the high reputation of Ukrainian Vogue, but also to bring it to a new level.”

Elena Chernova, publisher of Vogue Ukraine, added: “I am glad that Philip is returning to Vogue UA in the new status of the chief editor. His professionalism and experience helped us a lot at the start of the project, and I’m sure that he and our team will be able to realize many new bright projects and creative ideas.”

Vlasov will take up the new position in January.
