Major Alber Elbaz retrospective to open in Israel on September 12

A major retrospective on designer Alber Elbaz will open in Israel this month, to be staged in the Design Museum of Holon, in the neighborhood where the late designer grew up.

Entitled 'Alber Elbaz The Dream Factory,' the exhibition will take over the entire museum, and will include couture pieces, rare archival material, personal objects and photos shown to the public for the first time. Along with the debut collection for AZ Factory, the fledgling fashion house Elbaz had launched just prior to his untimely death in April 2021.

A key element in this new retrospective in Israel will be ensembles from Love Brings Love, from the joint fashion show presented in tribute to Elbaz on October 5, 2021, in Paris featuring creations in homage by 46 designers. These include designs by major fashion houses like Dior, Gucci, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen, and scores of avant-garde creators, which will be displayed in a new multimedia format specially designed for this exhibition.

This latest exhibition comes six months after Palais Galliera – a leading Paris fashion museum - staged an unprecedented exhibition entitled 'Love Brings Love, The Alber Elbaz Tribute Show' themed on that tribute show presented in the designer’s honor.

Curated by Ya’ara Keydar, the new exhibition in Holon will be unveiled on Monday, Sept. 12 in a Grand Opening before being opened to the public on September 15. It will run until March 2023.

Born in Casablanca and raised in Holon, Elbaz emigrated to New York, before going on to conquer Paris, leaving behind a  remarkable legacy that permanently influenced fashion, most notably during his decade-long tenure at the house of Lanvin. While at that Paris house his exceptional draping, sense of dark glamour and subtle sense of humor marked Alber as one of the half-dozen most influential designers of his era.

Alber Elbaz The Dream Factory was created in collaboration with Alber Elbaz’s long-time creative collaborators: Alex Koo; AZ Factory; Stinsensqueeze graphic design studio; consultant Shelly Verthime; International Communications Director Hania Destelle; as well as various international artists, photographers and video editors. The exhibition is also accompanied by Alber Elbaz’s family in Israel.
