Lush sees best-ever Christmas sales

Published
Jan 16, 2023

Beauty was big at Christmas, as results from Boots, The Fragrance Store and The Perfume Shop testify. Now we can add Lush to the list as the high street bath and bodycare retailer reported its highest-ever trading month in December, exceeding its forecasts.

UK and Ireland numbers also beat pre-pandemic sales, hitting £40.5 million last month, 11% higher than in 2019.

It said physical store sales rose 18% compared with 2021, with Lush citing customers returning to the high street. It also attributed the £7.4 million investment in growing its store numbers across the UK and Europe to its success, as well as collaborations with brands in the run-up to Christmas.

Product-wise, the retailer sold more than 148,000 of its Snow Fairy gift sets and thousands of other products from the Christmas range over the festive period.

Lush UK and Ireland retail director Kat Hannible said: “We were confident in a return to a more traditional Christmas trading pattern this year, and increased our stock levels and seasonal recruitment to provide the best possible experience for our customers.

“I’m happy to say that our optimistic preparation paid off and we’re delighted to report these results. I cannot over-emphasise the credit that is due to our shop and digital fulfilment staff, who have overcome the challenges of this year to deliver a fantastic Christmas.”
