Hermès, Gucci and Canada Goose ranked highest valued brands for resale

Published
Dec 7, 2018

A new report by The RealReal shows Hermès, Gucci, Van Cleef and Canada Goose are some of the most valuable brands that shoppers can give this holiday season, as the year's top performers when it comes to resale value.

The Real Real

In the company's 2018 Holiday Resale Report, the RealReal dug into data to find out which luxury brands were statistically proven to have true staying power.

For women's, Hermès top the top spot thanks to its Birkin, Kelly and Constance bags, which have risen in resale value by seven percent year-over-year (YoY). Other stars included Goyard with a resale value of 80 percent, and select pieces from Moncler, which retail for up to 90 percent of their original price.

In the women's category, the report found resale value is on the decline for Tory Burch, Miu Miu and Tom Ford, with a drop of 16, 7 and 6 percent, respectively.

A section of the report devoted to logo bags showed that Hermès' Constance bag holds a 67 percent YoY increase in average prices, while Gucci's GG Marmont matelassé bag (at 96 percent resale value) and Louis Vuitton's Empreinte Porchette Métis bag (at 95 percent) resell at nearly their original price.

In contrast, the report found a 13 percent decrease for the Chloe Faye Bag, a 9 percent decrease for the Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag, and a five percent decrease for the Givenchy Antigona.

The men's category was topped by Canada Goose, scoring an 82 percent resale value. As the "hottest global brand," Off-White is naturally experiencing a 12 percent rise in resale price YoY, with the Off-White x Nike shoe is selling well over original retail value. Kenzo dropped by 19 percent, Chrome Hearts by 15 percent and Dior Homme by 10 percent.

When it comes to luggage, Rimowa holds a high average of 77 percent resale value.

Entering into the resale-friendly category of sneakers, Gucci Ace holds a strong 69 percent of its resale value, followed closely behind by Louis Vuitton's logo-laden sneakers with a resale value of 67 percent, and Prada at 62 percent.

The jewelry category showed Van Cleef as the number one jewelry brand for the second year in a row on The RealReal, reselling for a high 74 percent of its original price, followed by Cartier and Anito Ko.

Finally, Rolex was the report's number one watch brand with a rising resale value of 14 percent YoY.
