Gymshark's Richardson is new chair of Haru

Published

Resale is hot news at present as specialist companies raise funds, open stores and appoint key execs to their teams. And the latest news is that Gymshark’s former chairman Paul Richardson has been appointed to the same role at fashion resale start-up Haru.

Paul Richardson

In his new role, the investor is bolstering his portfolio in the fashion and e-commerce space.

The Belfast-based e-commerce business enables retailers, including clothing brands, to accept and resell pre-owned products, while giving charities an online selling option “with little effort or investment”. It works with almost 300 charity shops at present.

Richardson is taking an active role at the business and it said that under his “expert guidance, it aims to become a dominant player in the second-hand fashion space and expand into the B2C market”.

He was instrumental in helping Gymshark become the global e-commerce business it is today. Before that, he was a joint owner and director of AllSaints, expanding the brand from five to 12 stores between 2002 and 2004. And recently, he became the owner and executive chairman at streetwear brand Hera that he’s working to build into a “£100 million fashion label”.

He also has extensive experience in recycling and waste management, which may not sound glamorous, but which is a key factor for anyone getting involved in a sustainable fashion business these days. The company said this gives him a “unique blend of experience and expertise to help guide and elevate Haru’s presence in the sector”.

Co-founder Jacques Hill said his presence should help to “make our visions a reality. The past few years have seen more consumers turn to online shopping. We are also witnessing more shoppers than ever looking for an affordable and sustainable alternative. Our service gives retailers the opportunity to access the growing second-hand market, while giving consumers more choice of quality assured, second-hand items”.
