Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Loewe: Fashion Awards 2019 nominees unveiled

Published
Oct 23, 2019

The British Fashion Council has released the shortlist for this year’s Fashion Awards, with Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Loewe leading the way with four nominations each.

The awards are the most important celebration of talent in the UK fashion scene, and serve as a fundraising event for the British Fashion Council to raise money for its multitude of initiatives.

Set to take place on Monday 2 December at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the event brings together some of the world’s most recognised fashion designers and creatives.

The shortlist was created by inviting a voting panel of 2,500 industry insiders to put forward their preferences for each award. Some of the nominees have been shortlisted for the same award in previous years, such as Gucci, which was announced as Brand of the Year in 2018.

Battling for the 2019 Brand of the Year award are Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Jacquemus, Loewe and Prada.

Alessandro Michele of Gucci is up against Daniel Lee of Bottega Veneta, Jonathan Anderson of Loewe, Kim Jones of Dior Men, and Simon Porte Jacquemus of Jacquemus for the Accessories Designer of the Year award.

Many of these designers, including Alessandro Michele, Daniel Lee, Jonathan Anderson, and Kim Jones, are also nominated for Designer of the Year alongside Miuccia Prada.

While the top three categories have a largely global representation, the Fashion Awards recognise British talent with the British Designer of the Year awards for Menswear and Womenswear.

Craig Green, Grace Wales Bonner, Kim Jones for Dior Men, Martine Rose and Riccardo Tisci for Burberry are up for British Designer of the Year Menswear, while British Designer of the Year Womenswear will be battled out between Daniel Lee for Bottega Veneta, John Galliano for Maison Margiela, Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson & Loewe, Richard Quinn and Simone Rocha.

Stephanie Phair, BFC chair said: “I would like to congratulate all the nominees of The Fashion Awards 2019. Each and every one of them is being recognised for their creative excellence and innovation. I look forward to celebrating them alongside the rest of the industry from across the globe on the 2nd of December at the Royal Albert Hall.”

In addition to the ten categories (including Accessories Designer of the Year, Brand of the Year and Designer of the Year), the British Fashion Council will recognise 100 of the most innovative and inspiring young creative talent from around the world as part of the NEW WAVE: Creatives. The list includes everything from artists, activists and casting agents to florists, image makers and nail artists.
