Ex-ASOS and M&S director becomes non-exec at JD Sports

In a busy week for industry appointments comes the news that JD Sports Fashion has a new and high profile non-executive director. Ian Dyson joins the retail giant’s board today (9 March) and takes seats on its Audit and Risk Committee and the Remuneration Committee.

A former senior independent director at digital fashion giant ASOS, Dyson is currently Chair at UK electricals retail giant Currys, backed by a strong track record across consumer facing industries and public company boards.

During his extensive executive career, he was also group finance and operations director of Marks & Spencer Group.

JD Chairman Andrew Higginson said of the appointment: “He brings a wealth of relevant experience and insight to our deliberations. The appointment of Ian is further progress towards strengthening the board's broader PLC experience base.”

Last month, JD Sports laid out its growth plan for the next five years, which includes adding up to 350 new stores annually, to grow revenues and operating margins by double digits over the half-decade, and generate cash from operating activities of £1 billion a year. It also said it would spend £500 million-£600 million annually, with over half of that allocated to adding between 250 and 350 new stores in under-penetrated markets.
