Dior to stage pre-fall men's collection in live London show

Christian Dior has unveiled plans to stage its Fall 2022 men's collection in a live London show, scheduled to take place in the UK capital on Thursday, December 9.

“I can’t wait to do a show in my hometown," enthused Kim Jones, artistic director of Dior Men, in a statement.

The show will mark the latest foreign jaunt for a Dior menswear show designed by Jones, and follows on trips to Miami and Tokyo. Last year, Dior unveiled a menswear collection in Beijing, that included a collab with artist Kenny Scharf. However, due to the pandemic, Jones was unable to attend that event in person.

The show will also mark the latest by Dior inside the United Kingdom, coming almost five years after a women’s cruise collection staged inside Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill. A celebration of entente cordiale between the couture house and British culture, ironically it was staged just days before the United Kingdom voted for Brexit.

“We are delighted to be presenting our Fall men’s collection abroad once again, and to be reconnecting with the 'physical' runway, an experience that is more important than ever,” added Pietro Beccari, chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture.

Dior said next month’s show in London would help begin a new chapter in its historic friendship with the United Kingdom, reaffirming the ties that were sealed during the first ever Dior show across the Channel, held in 1947 in the presence of the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

“We are proud and excited to be bringing this unique event to life in London, a particularly symbolic destination dear to Monsieur Dior and the House since 1947. London is of course also the city closest to Kim Jones' heart, where he was born and where he lives, which inspires him with its inexhaustible creativity and which he loves deeply,” added Beccari.

Jones, who prior to joining Dior helmed the menswear departments at Dunhill and Louis Vuitton, last staged a men’s show in Britain back in 2003.

Expect demand for invitations to be intense, when Britain’s single most influential menswear designer returns to his home turf next month.
