Dior names soccer star Kylian Mbappé as ambassador for menswear and Sauvage scent

The house of Dior has chosen French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé to be its latest ambassador for menswear and the Sauvage scent.

The 22-year-old Mbappé was the star striker when France was crowned champion in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Mbappé is considered to be the most exciting young talent in world football and is one of a triumvirate of attackers who play for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), along with Lionel Messi of Argentina and Neymar Jr of Brazil.

“The star striker will now be lending his image to the creations of Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Dior men’s collections and to the Sauvage perfume,” Dior said in a release on Friday.

His nomination marks a striking shift by Dior, who previously had used Hollywood stars like Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson as the face of the brand’s best-selling men’s cologne Sauvage.

Mbappé, whose 23rd birthday is on Monday, exploded onto the international scene as a teenager in 2017, when he scored 26 goals in 44 games in Ligue 1, helping Monaco to be crowned champions of France.

In August 2017, Mbappé transferred to PSG for a reported €145 million, making him the most expensive teenager ever in football. Mbappé has won over a dozen individual awards and in 2018 was named FIFA World Best Young Player.

Last month, he scored four goals in a qualifying match for France for the World Cup 2022, the first quartet of goals for the national team since 1958. Blessed with courageous dribbling skills, icy finishing and intense bursts of acceleration, Mbappé has scored a remarkable 176 goals in 266 professional club matches.

Since 2019; Mbappé has developed a lifestyle collection with Nike, inspired by Bondy, the Paris suburb where he grew up.

Known off the field for his charity work, Mbappé sponsors Premiers de Cordée, a sporting initiative for hospitalized children. Last year, he also launched his own association, known as Inspired by KM, to encourage children to reach their goals.

“Today, the house of Dior is particularly happy to welcome Kylian Mbappé, with whom it shares the same values of exacting standards and generosity,” Dior added.
