Daft Punk launches LA pop-up featuring top cult labels

Another musical group is throwing their hat into the pop-up shop ring. Daft Punk announced Tuesday morning that the duo will be launching a pop-up experience this month in Los Angeles.

The experience will be part retail shop and part retrospective of the duo’s work, including the band’s signature robot helmets and pieces of past sets.

The store will be located across the street from Maxfield’s, a renowned Los Angeles art and fashion emporium.  The doors will open on February 11th, just in time for the Grammy Awards that are taking place on February 12th, and will remain open until February 19th.

Instead of bringing in just one designer to create branded merchandise (as Justin Bieber did with Jerry Lorenzo), Daft Punk has brought in a full selection of fashion and design brands to create limited-edition items just for the pop-up. Off-White, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Enfants Riches Deprimes, Darkdron, furniture label Hervet Manufacturier, and Los Angeles jewelry brand Han Cholo will all participate in the pop-up experience.

Daft Punk has offered merchandise before, via their e-commerce site, but this will mark the first time Daft Punk merchandise is available in at a pop-up.

Since CD sales don’t have the profit potential they used to, musicians have been looking to pop-up locations to sell their merchandise outside of the traditional merch booths at concerts or via the musician’s website. Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and The Weeknd have found great success through limited-edition pop-ups – West reported his New York pop-up shop earned $1 million in sales over a three-day run. Bieber reportedly moved over 60% of his merchandise within the first two days of opening one of his pop-up locations.
