Columbia Sportswear adopts Montrail as its trail-running line

Columbia Sportswear has given a new lease of life to Montrail. The brand was created in 1993, and in 2006 it was acquired by the US sports brands group. However, Montrail's trail-running positioning meant that, given the presence of Mountain Hardwear, Sorel and Columbia, it struggled to establish itself.

For spring 2017, the group has decided to turn Montrail into a Columbia line. Just like Columbia PFG (performance fishing gear) does for fishing, Columbia Montrail will feature a wide range of shoes, apparel and accessories specific for trail-running. Using the same approach, Columbia recently introduced a new collection of golfing products.

The group stated that Montrail products will be featured in a selection of specialist stores until the end of 2016. In Columbia Sportswear's annual statement, Montrail was classified in the 'Other Assets' category.

In 2014 the Columbia Sportswear group generated consolidated revenues in excess of $2.1 billion. In addition to Columbia, Sorel, Mountain Hardwear and Montrail, the group also owns the PrAna brand. The 2015 financial results will be presented on 11th February.
