Christian Siriano creates Barbie dolls inspired by his red carpet looks

Published

The Project Runway-alum has created five looks for Barbie inspired by some of his most well known pieces worn on the red carpet by the likes of Leslie Jones and Sarah Hyland. The designs were created for the new body-inclusive dolls in the Barbie line.

Christian Siriano has dressed the likes of Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey and has earned praise for his willingness to dress women of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. Now the designer has translated some of his most famous red carpet looks for Barbie.

The five-piece collection takes its inspiration from a custom red gown worn by Leslie Jones for the premiere of Ghostbusters; a coral skirt and crop top worn by Sarah Hyland to the 2014 Emmys; a yellow cape and pant worn by Solange Knowles to Art Basel 2014; and a pink and black gown worn by Laura Osnes to the 2017 Met Gala. The fifth look is inspired by Siriano’s 2018 Resort Collection.

“Barbie has always been a huge inspiration to me and I’m honored to be teaming up with this iconic brand,” Siriano said in a statement. “It’s especially exciting to be designing an array of inclusive and diverse doll looks that can allow girls to see themselves better represented when they play.”

In a nod to Barbie’s new commitment to inclusivity, the looks are shown on dolls of various ethnicities and sizes. The Siriano Barbie designs are not available for retail however.
