Chic and Intertextile trade shows postpone their dates

The leading Chinese trade fairs Chic and Intertextile were scheduled to be held in Shanghai from April 14 to 16. However, due to health constraints caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers have announced the postponement of these spring editions, and in the case of Chic, a relocation.

The Chic fashion fair announced that it will instead exhibit from May 20 to 22, relocating 300 kilometers to the west to the Nanjing International Exhibiton Center. Chic will be housed in halls 4, 5, and 6 of the sprawling fairgrounds. Its organizers, CCPIT-Tex (China’s sub-council for textile industries) and the China World Trade Center, announced a lineup of brands and manufacturers for women’s, men’s, and kids fashion, from formal wear to streetwear; from denim to footwear, as well as bags and accessories.

"The Jiangsu province, together with its capital Nanjing, has many fashion industry clusters," detailed the organizers. "Such as the Changshu Garment Industrial Cluster for leather and down outerwear, with both menswear and womenswear, the Suzhou Garment Industrial Cluster or the Xinqiao Knitwear industrial cluster in Jiangyin. Nanjing itself is known for its women's fashion industry," they added.

Meanwhile, Intertextile and Yarn Expo announced that their spring edition will merge with their fall edition, scheduled to be held from August 29 to 31 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, where it will be joined by Intertextile Home Textile.

“This decision is necessary in order to reduce the risk of contagion and ensure the well-being of all our participants,” said managing director of Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong, which co-organizes Intertextile. “We will remain in close contact with all parties involved and look forward to providing an efficient sourcing platform for the textile industry when it is safe to do so,” she added.

Chic, Intertextile, PH Value (knitwear) and Yarn Expo (yarns and fibers) were initially scheduled to be held in March. A first postponement to mid-April was announced in the first days of 2022, in view of the resurgence of the Omicron variant and the consequences of the “Zero Covid” policy implemented by Beijing. This decision has led textile manufacturers to worry, as vast portions of the Chinese textile industry’s key provinces have been reconfigured.
