Chanel’s Sloane Street pop-up store targeted by raiders

Chanel has been targeted by thieves for the third time in the last four months. Attackers reversed a vehicle through the window of the brand’s pop-up store on Sloane Street on Wednesday, and are thought to have escaped with thousands of pounds worth of designer goods.

The luxury house opened the pop-up store in Knightsbridge while its main store is being refurbished. The incident coincided with the release of the brand’s new Spring Summer collection, including new season trainers which retail for over £700.

Raiders used a van and mopeds to break into the luxury store, which was previously guarded by dogs until criticism on social media promoted their removal.

The attack happened just before 3am, with thieves using a van to reverse through the front window three times before raiders swooped in and emptied the shelves, an unnamed witness told the Evening Standard.

The incident underlines the high level of crime facing luxury stores in recent years. Chanel’s pop-up store is thought to have been targeted at least two times in December, joining a number of other high-end boutiques including Canada Goose and Watches of Switzerland. It decided to reinforce the security measures with the services of a dog handler after the attacks.

The new Chanel store on Sloane Street will open in the summer.
