Blumarine hires new creative director following takeover

Published
Feb 19, 2020

Blumarine, the Carpi, Italy-based upmarket brand, will embark on a new creative direction following its acquisition by Italian entrepreneur Marco Marchi in November.

Nicola Brognano

Marchi has big plans for the brand. He is replacing Anna Molinari, who founded and owned Blumarine until its sale last year, with a younger talent, and laid out a plan to make the label more competitive on a global scale.

Starting in March, Nicola Brognano will lead the business as its new creative director. In this role, he will focus on reinterpreting the brand, while bringing it closer to the new generations, a task he seems well suited for given that he is only 29 years old.

With several achievements under his belt, including stints at Giambattista Valli and Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda, as well as the 2016 ’Who Is On Next’ award, Brognano started his eponymous brand in 2015.

“Nicola will bring the freshness of his creative talent to Blumarine and an innovative approach that will give new impetus to such an iconic brand,” said Marco Marchi, sole administrator of Eccellenze Italiane.

“I find all the characteristics needed for a contemporary interpretation of the codes that established the success of Blumarine in Nicola’s creativity and I am glad that a young Italian designer will be narrating this new chapter of the history of the brand, while carrying forward the style attitude of Anna Molinari.

“Blumarine meant a lot for international fashion and I am confident that Nicola’s energy will help bring new and great satisfaction in the near future.”

Commenting on his appointment, Brognano said he will focus on a ‘reinterpretation shaped by identity and character’.

He added: “Blumarine fashion and the style of Anna Molinari have always represented a personal source of inspiration and a true testimony to creativity and vision.”

His first Resort collection for the brand will make its debut in June, while a main collection is
expected to launch on the runway at Milan Fashion Week in September.
