BFC reveals next menswear line-up; heralds streaming on own Instagram channel

The British Fashion Council, UK fashion’s governing body, has announced the main composition of its next edition of London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM), heralding a new LFWM #Discovery digital campaign, in a season, however, lacking many of the top British design names.

The 15th edition of LFWM, scheduled for Jan 4 to 6, is again centered at Truman Brewery, a Victorian show space in east London, and contains some stellar young talent.

However, the single most acclaimed young British menswear designer Craig Green is noticeably absent from the schedule, swapping LFWM for Paris men's season; while happening house A-Cold-Wall will show in Milan in January. Plus, the country’s two leading menswear brands Burberry and Paul Smith are also not present: Burberry as it now stages co-ed shows; while Sir Paul will celebrate his 50th anniversary show in Paris.

That said, in a major digital push, all shows within the BFC Show Space at Truman Barewery will be livestreamed on the official London Fashion Week Instagram channel. The LFWM #Discovery digital campaign will share content from London; Milan, where London Show Rooms makes a debut in January; and in Paris where it has been since 2008.

“This will be followed by Shanghai and Seoul, whose future activations will be announced in the coming months,” said a BFC release.

Among the highlights of January’s LFWM are LVMH Prize winner Grace Wales Bonner; Martine Rose, who was nominated in the British Designer of the Year Menswear & Urban Luxe categories at The Fashion Awards 2019; and Charles Jeffrey Loverboy, BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund Nominee.

Also sure to attract a large audience,  Bethany Williams, winner of British Emerging Talent Menswear at The Fashion Awards 2019 and shortlisted for the 2019 LVMH Prize; Edward Crutchley, winner of the 2019 International Woolmark Prize and shortlisted for BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund.

Key other names to watch are Art School, Nicholas Daley, paria /Farzaneh, Per Götesson & Stefan Cooke. While Ahluwalia Studio and Bianca Saunders will both host presentations in the DiscoveryLAB on Sunday.

And A-Cold-Wall, though moving to Milan this season, also plans “a creative experience,” according to a release.

In a welcome step up in commitment from Savile Row, Huntsman and Hackett will also host presentations. Huntsman will showcase their archives alongside a new Bespoke Tweed Service and ready-to-wear capsule collection over the duration of LFWM, while Hackett will further host a presentation on Monday in their newly opened store on Savile Row.

Carhartt x APC, Nicholas Daley and Bianca Saunders are also planning events and parties for the London season, due to be wrapped up on Monday 6 with a dinner hosted by Dylan Jones; the mag he edits, British GQ; Jack Guinness and Hackett.
