Sophia Loren stars in new Dolce & Gabbana beauty campaign

Silver screen legend Sophia Loren has unveiled her latest high-profile role -- as the star of the latest Dolce & Gabbana beauty campaign.

The Oscar-winning Italian actress has been chosen by the fashion house to front the 'Rosa Excelsa' spring campaign for the brand's latest product. The new release is being teased by the first video in a trilogy of film clips, titled "Rinascita - Act One".

The clip sees Loren play the mother of five sons who set about restoring their ancient Sicilian family property, Villa Valguanera, to its former renaissance glory. As the group set about knocking down walls, repairing the roof and cleaning frescoes, Loren can be found ordering them about and getting her hands dirty by sawing down trees and plastering the walls.

The narrative is in keeping with the Italian duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's love of both their native culture and of including different generations of the same family in its campaigns and runway shows. The duo even dedicated their Autumn-Winter 2015 catwalk show to mothers, featuring models holding babies and wearing dresses scrawled with "I love you mamma."

In keeping with the trilogy theme, Loren is one of three Oscar winners brought in by Dolce & Gabbana to work on the project, which was directed by Giuseppe Tornatore and features a soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone.

This isn't the first time Loren has worked with the fashion and beauty powerhouse -- in September last year, Dolce & Gabbana unveiled the "Sophia Loren N°1 lipstick", a deep red lip color that was designed by and dedicated to the actress. Loren also starred in a campaign video for the product.
