The luxury fashion label is launching a six-month training initiative aimed at tomorrow's fashion elite, in association with L'Institut Français de la Mode and the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Admissions can still be submitted for the course, which will begin in mid-October.

The first of its kind, the new program will be open to a select few interns working at Saint Laurent and students from both leading French fashion schools.

The six-month training course will be partly based at the Saint Laurent headquarters in Paris's chic 8th arrondissement.

The classes of the 'academy' style initiative will be taught at the two fashion schools, and will be rolled out over 25 days. They will include introductory modules enabling students to gain a sound understanding of the fashion house's almost five-decade spanning history, brand DNA and the rebellious, revolutionary creative processes behind Yves Saint Laurent's iconic dresses and 'Le Smoking' suit.

The finishing school-inspired program will culminate in a special design project requiring students to create a futuristic sample prototype inspired by one of the label's staple garments. Their portfolios will be submitted to a jury of experts from Saint Laurent, the IFM and the ECSCP at the end of March 2018.

The course teaching staff will be comprised of Saint Laurent's top seamstresses, pattern-makers, and in-house fashion models along with lecturers from the IFM and ECSCP's highly experienced pool of fashion and garment-making professionals, such as fashion historian Florence Müller.

The vocational education project with two of France's most prestigious fashion institutions is a first for Saint Laurent.
