Intertextile: a fast-growing event in Shanghai

Published
Oct 9, 2015

The great international event for textile manufacturing will run from 13th to 15th October. Approximately 4,600 exhibitors from 29 countries are expected at Shanghai's National Exhibition and Convention Centre. The show will be running in parallel with the Chic apparel show, holding its first autumn edition.

The Shanghai event, organised by Germany's Messe Frankfurt and the Chinese Textiles Chamber of Commerce (CCPIT) will occupy a larger exhibition area, extending over 18,500 m² compared to 15,700 m² a year earlier. The show has ambitious expectations in terms of attendance, after the record figures last March, when the event was first held jointly with Chic Shanghai.

"The show's first collocation together with Chic resulted in a great increase in the number of major Chinese fashion sourcing companies, and we forecast this number will further rise for the October edition, when the two shows will be held jointly for the second time," Messe Frankfurt (HK) Senior General Manager Wendy Wen has stated.

The forthcoming edition should also be notable for the “return of premium European exhibitors.” In particular, a 35% increase in the number of top-quality wool specialists from the Old Continent is expected. About ten among the major European textile countries will attend, with Germany, Portugal and Turkey also featuring dedicated areas. As usual, Italian manufacturing will be showcased by the presence of Milano Unica.

The number of denim industry representatives too will be greatly strengthened. Launched for the first time a year ago with 160 companies, the 'Beyond Denim' section will return in October with an exhibition area expanded by 74% and split up in five areas: Craftsmanship (heritage), Western (raw), Dwell (comfort), Cyber (fantasy) and Wanderer (creative).

'Verve for Design', the section dedicated to textile design, will also increase its numbers by 40%, welcoming for the first time some Japanese, Russian and Swiss studios, bolstering up a presence which remains largely British. The event will also showcase the work of the latest Texprint Awards winners.

The yarn trade show, Yarn Expo, will once again be held alongside Intertextile. The event records a huge increase in the number of exhibitors, risen by 70% to 250 companies. About one hundred of them will come from abroad, from India, South Korea, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Switzerland.
