Hermès names new vice president of press and influence for USA

Michael Carl, who left his role as fashion director at Vanity Fair after six years in May, is set to join luxury brand Hermès as its vice president of press and influence.

He will report to Peter Malachi, senior vice president of communications and will be based at Hermès’ US headquarters in New York City.

“We are delighted to welcome Michael with confidence he will bring his depth of experience and editorial sensibility to Hermès at a time of significant media transformation,” Malachi said in a statement.

Carl joins the Paris-based luxury brand, famous for its exclusive handbags, after being laid off by Vanity Fair in a round of job cuts earlier this year. In February, the publication axed more than a dozen jobs and in May another six employees followed, including Michael Carl.

Before working for Vanity Fair, he spent some time at Nylon and Interview.
