Daka Sport unveils first concept store in Alkmaar

On Friday 22 June, Dutch sportswear retailer Daka Sport announced that it has unveiled a new concept store. The shop is located in the city of Alkmaar’s Noorder Arcade shopping center and marks the retailer’s first concept store.

At the 3,000-square-metre store, the shopping experience will be the main focus, Daka Sport said in a press release. The new store concept is part of the retailer’s recently launched omni-channel model, in which the physical store and web shop are linked. For example, the physical store also offers customers access to the online range as well as benefits from the loyalty program.

Jan-Peter Dankaart, general manager at Daka Sport said: “Each Daka Sport store will have its own focus, based on the customer’s needs, which differ regionally. Running, football, active/outdoor and winter sports are central at the Alkmaar branch.”

In May 2018, the sportswear retailer announced that it quit its franchise partnership with Intersport as well as the retail services provided by Intersport licensee Euretco. The Alkmaar-based concept store is a first of a nationwide rollout of Daka Sport concept stores and the result of the retailer’s independence.

Daka Sport said that the new store concept is based on earlier experiences the retailer had with the renovations of branches in Rotterdam Noord and Rotterdam Oost.

Daka Sport started as a Rotterdam-based family business in 1965, founded by Peter Dankaart and his wife Anke. Following the death of Peter Dankaart in 2017, the company is now managed by his son Jan-Peter and daughters Esther and Patricia. The retailer offers sport apparel and accessories for men, women and children. Available brands include Adidas, Beachlife, Vans, Oakley and Yellowstone. Daka Sport currently operates 14 branches across the Netherlands as well as its own online store.
