Chanel to stage its next cruise collection in… Paris

Published

Once all roads led to Rome, now all cruises seem to end up in France.

Chanel announced Friday that its next cruise runway show will be staged inside a favored haunt of its creative director Karl Lagerfeld – the Grand Palais in Paris.

The house sent a save-the-date to senior editors on Friday evening confirming that its 2018/19 cruise show will take place on Thursday, May 3 in the giant Grand Palais. The famed 19th exhibition hall was the site of Chanel’s most recent runway show, the epic autumnal forest collection, where the house recreated a giant wood for its fall 2018 ready-to-wear show catwalk show, in the most brilliant staging of the recent international runway season.

This move follows the announcement that both Gucci and Louis Vuitton will also present their next cruise collections in France.

Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière revealed on his Instagram account that he will take his next cruise show to the famed Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence on May 28. A year ago, Ghesquière had brought Vuitton to the Miho museum north of Kyoto, Japan; following on from a previous show in Palm Springs.

While Gucci had already made clear it is off to Provence, with an event inside Alyscamps, one of the most famous Roman necropolises in the world.
