Carhartt WIP to move to King’s Cross

European clothing company Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) is the latest to join the retail mix in London’s King’s Cross as it announces plans to open a 2,500 sq ft store on King’s Boulevard in September.


King's Boulevard is estimated to draw 18 million visitors by 2019


The announcement comes on the heels of Jigsaw announcing a new store in Three Pancras Square and follows the opening of Nike’s new global concept Nike Central on King’s Boulevard in August last year.

The area’s retail transformation continues with the addition of Carhartt WIP, which will offer its distinctive contemporary clothing and accessories at the new King’s Cross store. The space will pay tribute to the brand’s origins 120 years ago in Detroit and will become the go-to location for collaborative and special products.

The store design will be handled by multidisciplinary design agency Faye Toogood, with the interior featuring a modular layout to enable the space to move and adapt to a changing retail campaign.

Annual footfall on King’s Boulevard is estimated at 18 million people by 2019. Autumn next year will see the opening of the main concentration of retail at King’s Cross, Coal Drops Yard, which will house 65 shops, a major restaurant and numerous cafés over 100,000 sq ft.

“Iconic King’s Cross is one of London’s most vibrant, energetic and dynamic neighbourhoods right now, and the retail element is the next layer to be revealed,” said Craig White, project director at Argent.

“We are hand picking important and influential brands whom can express their stories, through dynamic store design that incorporates their digital world, fresh approaches to visual merchandizing innovation, and collaborations and links to art and culture, and who will offer enriching shopping experiences, to both national and international visitors.”
