Beauty notes from New York Fashion Week

As New York Fashion Week wraps up for another season, we take stock of the beauty trends spotted on the city's catwalks over the past six days.

New York is known for its laid-back attitude to catwalk beauty, but multiple brands went all out this season. At Rodarte, the look was unapologetically feminine and romantic, featuring vivid eyeshadow and bright red lips and tousled. However, the focal point of the approach was a series of avant-garde flower crowns that saw fresh roses woven into the models' tousled hairstyles.

At Anna Sui the focus was on the eyes, which were washed with vivid gradient sunset tones such as bright pink and neon orange. The shadow was swept up through the brows and down to the cheeks, creating a surreal and ethereal eye mask.

Elsewhere, bold lipstick was back on the agenda. The look was championed by Veronica Beard, who matched the models' precise, scarlet lipstick to a complementing nail polish shade for a double whammy of glamorous red.

At The Blonds the trend took on a darker tone, with lacquered black lipstick making an appearance at the label's show -- a slightly sinister look that nodded to its fashion collaboration with Disney's Villains.

There were plenty of softer looks spotted on the runway, however, with heritage brand Coach leading the way with a whimsical beauty look that relied on not much more than a slick of mascara and a headful of tousled waves to make its point.

At Monse, a slightly glossy nude lip and a dewy complexion were the main beauty accessories, also accompanied by undone waves, while the makeup look at Tory Burch also focused on neutral tones and a soft complexion.

Proenza Schouler put an edgier spin on things with slicked-back hair and glowing, natural skin.
